How can I tell if I need new windows?

Here are some sure signs that your old windows need to be replaced:

• Difficult to open or close
• Drafty, with air leaking through or around the window
• Excessive condensation on the inside of the window panes
• Windows rattle in the wind
• Paint chipping or peeling
• House is always too cold in winter - or too hot in summer

What type of windows and doors am I required to have?

That requires a home inspection. Different areas have different local building codes that specify different types of windows. These codes must be met and they do vary from location to location.

Do we have to get a permit?

Yes. All windows and door replacements require a building permit by a licensed certified contractor. We are licensed in the State of Florida.

Does your company do its own installations or are outside contractors used?

We use our own trained installers, this gives us greater control over quality.

How long will it take to get the job done?

Material lead times are determined by manufacturers and are based on the products selected. Once the material delivery date is confirmed, Dovi Windows will schedule the installation in a timely manner to work with the homeowners schedule.

Is it possible to get a ball park price over the phone?

No. In order to ensure we provide as accurate an estimate as possible, we conduct a thorough inspection of the property to determine the type of windows to be used, the available options for those windows, and code requirements specific to your area. Note that all estimates are free of charge.

Are screens included in the price?

Yes, unless otherwise requested.

What do I have to do?

During our free estimate, we'll identify and discuss any issues that we discover such as blind removal, sill replacement, or moving furniture. Once the job begins, every effort will be made to ensure that installation has as little impact on you as possible. We pride ourselves on keeping a safe and clean worksite.

What kind of windows and doors do you have?

We offer a variety of styles from single pane, insulated, impact resistant and insulated impact resistant styles in wood, aluminum and vinyl.

What is the warranty?

Warranties vary by each manufacturer, based on the type of products and glass. Dovi Windows also provides an installation warranty for all jobs installed by us.

How do I measure my windows?

The beauty of working with Dovi Window Designs is that you don't have to. All of our salesmen are trained to do quality professional work. We take the worry out of it so you can relax and enjoy your new windows and doors. We take care of the proper measuring for an accurate fit.

We take care of meeting current code requirements like:

1. Egress for emergency escape where required by code.
2. Safety glazing in windows required by location in home.
3. Meeting turtle code requirements for shading co-efficient in county of Volusia as required.
4. Meeting current Florida codes for Wind Borne Debris protection on all windows and doors.
5. Making sure the windows and doors have Florida product approval and Notice of Acceptance.
6. Making sure proper permits are pulled and inspection is done at completion.

What causes condensation on the inside of my windows?

Condensation is a natural occurrence on all windows and is caused by humidity, or invisible water vapor, present in the air. When this water vapor comes in contact with a surface that is cooler, the vapor turns into droplets of moisture.Our windows have built-in features to keep the temperature of the glass as warm as possible and thus reduce condensation. Our insulated glass provides superior energy efficiency to reduce the potential for condensation. However, there is no such thing as a condensation-free window in high humidity conditions. Controlling the amount of moisture in your home is the most effective action you can take to avoid condensation.

What is Low-E Glass and what will it do for my home?

Low emissivity reflects the heat back to the source. It is an energy efficient coating, the hard coat Low-E is applied while the glass is still in a molten stage and is not as affected by air since it is very durable. The soft coat is applied in a vacuum chamber and is very delicate and usually used with argon gas. Soft coat Low-E is more energy efficient and has better r-values than hard coat Low-E and reflects the heat source better.

What is Hurricane Impact Glass and how is it made?

Hurricane impact glass is referred to as laminated glass. It is made by taking two pieces of glass and joining them together with a poly vinyl butyral inner layer. The two pieces of glass are put together in a clean room then baked so they stay together permanently.

How do I know if I need hurricane glass where I live?

You will know if you are required to have hurricane glass by calling the building department. If you live in a wind bourne debris area you will be required to have hurricane windows, or protective shutters.
